PVDA Schooling Show at
Windsor Stables l May 23, 2009
The May 23rd show was held at Windsor Stables which is located at the beautiful Andover Equestrian Center in Linthicum, Maryland. This isn’t any ordinary equestrian center. It is located on a farm that dates back to the early 1800’s. This is a beautiful old farm with a restored old farm house where the farm’s manager Jill Windsor, husband Rocky, and new son Lex, reside. It has a beautiful large barn and a carriage house where stalls for the horses are located. Jill, along with her mother, Mary Lou Windsor, has planted numerous gardens on the property. It is truly a treasure of the Linthicum area. Recently it was on a list of historical site tours of the area and I had the opportunity to give tours of the Big Barn and the stall areas. It also has a beautiful bike trail that runs through the property all the way around the airport. Many of the area residents stop and will tell you how blessed they feel to have this beautiful old farm still around.
Many of the show’s riders complimented on how beautiful the farm was and how strange is seemed to be right in the middle of this heavily populated area. Peggy Pariso, our wonderful show judge, laughed to me about her directions to the farm. She said, “I know you told me I was in the right place and not to worry but who would think this beautiful farm would be right in the middle of this community.”
The weather was beautiful and all riders had a wonderful opportunity to show their schooling skills. Everyone seemed very relaxed and just enjoyed themselves. Peggy, who was so kind to fill in after we lost a judge due to a very bad injury, really seemed to enjoy talking and giving great advice and some wonderful riding tips to the riders. At the end of the day, a great crew of volunteers: Kara, Mary Beth, Anna, Kathy, and Samantha helped this first time show manager finish the show.
